Substation relocation
Challenge
A regular client who is a major housebuilder had purchased a site in Yorkshire. The site was previously owned by a household name clothing manufacturer. All of their garments were made on site and therefore the factory needed a substantial substation to supply their needs. The substation was in a prohibitive location within the site. The housebuilder was quoted tens £thousands to have the substation relocated within their site boundary plus several more for the supply to their new units. The timescales given by the electricity company for removal of the substation would have caused the developer a lengthy delay on construction.
Solution
On instruction Hamer Associates immediately reviewed the legal rights of the electricity company and served the relevant notices. Following negotiation the substation was relocated at no cost to the developer and all within 3 months of instruction thereby keeping the development on track.
